Scope of the Report
The global Sialon Power market size is predicted to grow from US$ 104 million in 2025 to US$ 252 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13.5% from 2026 to 2032.
Sialon Powder is an advanced ceramic material derived from silicon nitride, modified by incorporating oxides such as alumina, yttria, and magnesia to form a multi-phase solid solution. It is recognized for its exceptional properties, including high strength, hardness, excellent thermal shock resistance, oxidation resistance, and superior corrosion resistance. These advantages make Sialon Powder widely applicable in industries such as metallurgy, cutting tools, wear-resistant components, electronic devices, and aerospace engineering. The upstream supply chain primarily consists of raw materials such as silicon nitride powder, alumina, yttria, and magnesia. The purity and particle size distribution of these raw materials are critical, as they directly determine the performance and quality of the final Sialon powder. However, the relatively high cost of high-purity raw materials and fluctuations in supply chains represent notable challenges for manufacturers. On the downstream side, the customer base includes precision machining companies producing cutting tools, steel and non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises, high-temperature furnace equipment manufacturers, electronic ceramic component producers, as well as aerospace and defense industries requiring high-performance materials.
In 2025, global Sialon Power sales reached 218 Tons, with an average global market price of around 463 USD/Kg. Production capacity reached 300 Tons, with a gross profit margin of approximately 45%.
1) The market is upgrading from ordinary refractory powders to advanced ceramic-grade powders with high purity, fine particle size, and high consistency. The final ceramic properties of SiAlON are highly dependent on powder purity, particle size distribution, oxygen content, α/β phase composition, and sintering aid distribution. Therefore, high-end applications have significantly higher requirements for batch stability and microstructure control than ordinary refractories. Currently, SiAlON preparation still widely adopts the powder metallurgy route, and various densification processes such as hot pressing, gas pressure sintering, pressureless sintering, and SPS have been developed. This means that competition among upstream powder suppliers is shifting from "whether they can synthesize SiAlON" to "whether they can stably control phase composition, particle size, and sintering performance."
2) High-speed cutting and machining of difficult-to-machine alloys will continue to drive demand for high-performance SiAlON materials. SiAlON combines hardness, wear resistance, high-temperature strength, and certain fracture toughness, giving it a significant advantage in high-speed machining of materials such as gray cast iron, ductile iron, and nickel-based heat-resistant alloys. With the increasing demand for nickel-based alloys and high-temperature materials in aero-engines, gas turbines, automotive parts, and high-end equipment, tool-grade α/β-SiAlON powder will continue to develop towards high purity, fine grains, and specialized formulations.
3) Metallurgy and non-ferrous metal melt processing will remain one of the most stable industrial application bases for SiAlON. β-SiAlON possesses excellent thermal shock resistance, corrosion resistance, and non-wetting properties with partially molten metals, thus it has long been used in thermocouple protection tubes, riser tubes, heating tubes, crucible-related components, extrusion dies, and wear-resistant and heat-resistant components related to continuous casting. This means that the fundamental demand for SiAlON powder will not solely rely on new high-tech applications, but will remain highly correlated with aluminum processing, casting, steel, and industrial furnace upgrades.
4) Steel refractory materials are becoming an important direction for SiAlON powder technology upgrades. In recent years, in the research of low-carbon MgO-C, Al₂O₃-C, and composite refractory materials, SiAlON has been increasingly used to improve oxidation resistance, slag erosion resistance, and high-temperature service performance. For powder manufacturers, this market segment places greater emphasis on cost, reactivity, and large-scale supply capabilities, forming a different product roadmap from high-end structural ceramic powders.
