Scope of the Report
The global COS Hydrolysis Catalyst market size is predicted to grow from US$ 123 million in 2025 to US$ 173 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.0% from 2026 to 2032.
COS hydrolysis catalysts are industrial catalysts loaded into fixed-bed reactors to catalyze the reaction between carbonyl sulfide (COS) and water vapor, producing hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and carbon dioxide (CO₂); the primary reaction is COS + H₂O → H₂S + CO₂. Their function is to convert COS—which is difficult to remove to deep levels using conventional amine solutions or solid desulfurizers—into H₂S, a compound that is easier to handle. This process reduces the total sulfur content of the feed gas and protects downstream catalysts used in ammonia synthesis, methanol production, hydrogen generation, and methanation.
Upstream raw materials primarily include support materials such as pseudoboehmite, activated alumina, and titanium dioxide, as well as promoters like potassium carbonate, potassium hydroxide, chromium salts, vanadium salts, and other metal oxides; binders, pore-forming agents, and shaping aids are also utilized. Downstream applications mainly involve purification units for coal-gasification syngas, natural gas, steel industry off-gases, refinery gases, and petrochemical feedstocks; these catalysts are typically used in conjunction with zinc oxide desulfurizers, iron-based desulfurizers, amine-based acid gas removal systems, or Claus sulfur recovery units.
Global sales volume is projected to reach approximately 30,000 metric tons in 2025, with a comprehensive average market price of around $4,000 per ton and gross profit margins for major manufacturers ranging from 25% to 38%.

Systematic collection from 500+ verified sources including SEC filings, industry databases (Bloomberg, Statista, OECD), regulatory filings, trade publications, patent databases, and company annual reports. AI-assisted extraction identifies relevant data points across 10,000+ documents per report.
Dual-validation approach: bottom-up sizing aggregates segment-level production, consumption, and trade data; top-down sizing cross-validates against macroeconomic indicators and total addressable market estimates. Discrepancies >5% trigger analyst review.
Company profiles built from public financial disclosures, product launches, M&A activity, job postings (as capability proxies), and supply chain mapping. Market share estimates triangulated across revenue, capacity, and shipment data.
CAGR projections use time-series regression on 5-10 years of historical data, adjusted for identified demand drivers (technology adoption curves, regulatory catalysts, demographic shifts) and demand inhibitors (cost barriers, substitution risk). Scenario modeling covers base, optimistic, and conservative cases.
All quantitative outputs reviewed by a domain-specialist analyst before publication. Data triangulation requires minimum 3 independent sources for every key figure. Reports undergo a structured peer review against our 47-point quality checklist covering methodology, data citations, logical consistency, and formatting standards.
