概述

Scope of the Report

The global Isobutylene Isoprene Rubber (IIR) market size is predicted to grow from US$ 6,429 million in 2025 to US$ 8,885 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.8% from 2026 to 2032.

Isobutylene Isoprene Rubber, commonly known as Butyl Rubber or IIR, is a highly saturated synthetic elastomer produced by the low-temperature cationic copolymerization of isobutylene with a small proportion of isoprene. The incorporation of isoprene provides limited unsaturation for vulcanization, while the predominantly polyisobutylene backbone gives the rubber exceptionally low gas and moisture permeability, good resistance to weathering, ozone, heat and chemicals, and effective vibration damping. Commercial butyl rubber includes regular IIR and its halogenated derivatives, chlorobutyl rubber and bromobutyl rubber. In 2025, global Isobutylene Isoprene Rubber production reached approximately 1,680 K MT.

Growth in tire production and the continuing penetration of tubeless radial tires remain the principal drivers of the global butyl rubber market. Regular IIR is widely used in tire inner tubes and curing bladders, while bromobutyl and chlorobutyl rubber are essential materials for inner liners that minimize air loss and help tires maintain stable inflation pressure. The continued expansion of vehicle ownership, replacement tire demand and commercial transportation in Asia supports steady consumption of high-barrier elastomers. New capacity and localization in China and India are also reducing dependence on imported products and expanding the availability of locally manufactured regular and halogenated butyl rubber.

Demand is also increasing in pharmaceutical closures, industrial sealing, construction waterproofing and vibration-control products. Pharmaceutical applications require low-extractable, low-metal and high-purity halobutyl grades for vial stoppers and other drug-contact closures. In construction and industrial markets, butyl rubber benefits from its combination of moisture resistance, long-term flexibility, chemical stability and gas impermeability. Manufacturers are therefore developing cleaner pharmaceutical grades, food-contact grades, higher-purity tire grades and lower-carbon products to differentiate their portfolios beyond standard commodity IIR.
