概述

Scope of the Report

The global N-Benzylaniline market size is predicted to grow from US$ 4.94 million in 2025 to US$ 8.04 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.3% from 2026 to 2032.

In 2025, global N-Benzylaniline capacity 900 Tons, sales reached approximately 800 Tons, with an average market price of around 6 USD/Kg, industrial gross margin 18%.

N-Benzylaniline, also known as N-Phenylbenzylamine (CAS 103-32-2), is a secondary aromatic amine whose commercial relevance derives from its controlled benzylated-amine functionality rather than from commodity-scale amine consumption. The product has a molecular formula of C₁₃H₁₃N and a molecular weight of 183.25 g/mol, with a typical melting range of approximately 35–38°C, boiling point of 306–307°C, density of about 1.061 g/mL at 25°C and flash point near 113°C. Its melting point close to ambient temperature means commercial material may appear as a low-melting solid, solidified melt or supercooled liquid depending on handling conditions. The market definition used here includes only industrial material produced and sold in commercial quantities to manufacturing customers, while excluding laboratory reagents, analytical standards and small-pack research products. Structurally adjacent products such as N-methyl-N-benzylaniline, N-ethyl-N-benzylaniline and N,N-dibenzylaniline are also excluded. Standard industrial grades are typically specified at ≥98.0–98.5% assay, while higher-purity commercial grades reach ≥99%; representative impurity limits include residual aniline ≤0.8%, N,N-dibenzylaniline ≤1.0% and water ≤0.5%. Purity alone therefore does not distinguish an industrial grade from a laboratory reagent—packaging, order size, end use and customer specifications are more meaningful segmentation criteria.

Direct N-alkylation of aniline with benzyl chloride remains the most straightforward commercial production route, with economics driven by selectivity, suppression of over-benzylation and efficient purification. Publicly disclosed manufacturing procedures typically employ a carbonate or bicarbonate base and operate around 90–100°C; one industrial process description uses 90–95°C for roughly three hours, followed by phase separation, washing, recovery of unreacted aniline and vacuum distillation. Under representative reduced-pressure conditions, the desired fraction can be collected at approximately 170–190°C at 1.6 kPa. The route benefits from established raw materials and conventional multipurpose chemical equipment, but it generates inorganic salt-containing streams and can form N,N-dibenzylaniline through secondary alkylation. Consequently, residual aniline, color, by-product profile, distillation efficiency and batch consistency are more important competitive variables than reaction chemistry itself. Alternative technologies include hydrogenation of an aniline–benzaldehyde imine intermediate and borrowing-hydrogen alkylation of aniline with benzyl alcohol. These routes can potentially reduce halide and salt waste, but catalyst economics, hydrogen handling, scale-up robustness and process productivity remain critical to industrial adoption.

Demand is characteristic of a specialty intermediate market: volumes per downstream formulation are modest, while consistency and qualification requirements carry disproportionate procurement weight. Pharmaceutical and fine-chemical intermediates represent the clearest commercial end-use base, where customers focus on residual aniline, over-benzylation impurities, moisture, color, analytical traceability and change control. Dye and colorant chemistry represents another established technical use for arylbenzylamine structures, with reaction consistency and cost competitiveness receiving greater emphasis. Agrochemical and custom organic synthesis opportunities are more fragmented and tend to be project-driven rather than standardized. China has a structural advantage through its integrated aniline, benzyl chloride, aromatic-amine and multipurpose fine-chemical manufacturing base, and most publicly verifiable industrial-scale suppliers identified for this specific CAS are Chinese. By contrast, a substantial share of visible U.S., European and Japanese listings are laboratory or research grades and should not be treated as industrial production capacity. For international customers, supplier audits, COA consistency, continuity of supply and dual-sourcing capability are increasingly as important as nominal assay.

The competitive landscape is fragmented, and the number of verifiable industrial manufacturers is materially smaller than the number of companies appearing in online supplier directories. Longchang Chemical is linked to a manufacturing site in Weifang and publishes an industrial specification of ≥98.5% with 25 kg drum packaging. Shanghai Ruifu Chemical identifies a multipurpose manufacturing site in Jiangsu and offers >98% material supported by kilogram-to-ton scale-up infrastructure. MIT-IVY lists ≥99% N-Phenylbenzylamine within its broader aromatic-amine, pharmaceutical-intermediate and dye-intermediate manufacturing portfolio. In contrast, many companies found in broad supplier databases are explicitly classified as traders, reagent vendors or service providers. A relevant change in the broader supply model occurred in March 2025, when Scimplify—whose product portfolio includes 98% N-Phenylbenzylamine—raised US$40 million in Series B funding, co-led by Accel and Bertelsmann India Investments, to expand an R&D-led specialty-chemical manufacturing network spanning more than 200 manufacturing partners. The financing was not dedicated to N-benzylaniline capacity, but it illustrates the shift toward integrated process development, distributed manufacturing and supply-chain orchestration in specialty chemicals.

The next five years are more likely to deliver mid-single-digit growth and a gradual shift toward higher-specification supply than a conventional capacity-led commodity cycle. Incremental demand should come primarily from pharmaceutical intermediates, customized fine chemicals, continued expansion of Asian synthesis activity and supplier diversification by U.S., European and Japanese customers. Technology development will center on tighter impurity control, reduced residual aniline and dibenzyl by-products, higher raw-material recovery, lower salt-water generation and potentially more efficient catalytic N-alkylation routes. On the supply side, multipurpose reactors and flexible campaign manufacturing should remain economically preferable to large dedicated units because of the market’s relatively fragmented demand profile. Competitive differentiation will increasingly favor suppliers capable of delivering ≥99% industrial material with stable impurity fingerprints, documented process control, customer-audit readiness and reliable international logistics. Constraints include limited consumption per individual downstream program, relatively accessible core chemistry, tighter environmental and occupational controls for aromatic amines, and the potential for downstream synthesis routes to redesign around alternative intermediates.
