Scope of the Report
The global Halohydrin Dehalogenases market size is predicted to grow from US$ 33.43 million in 2025 to US$ 56.70 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.9% from 2026 to 2032.
In 2025, global sales volume of Halohydrin Dehalogenase is estimated at approximately 7.5 tons, with an average global market price of around USD 4,556/kg. The gross margin of major manufacturers in the industry is generally estimated at about 35%–60%.
Halohydrin Dehalogenase, abbreviated as HHDH or Hhe, is a biocatalytic enzyme used for the conversion of halohydrin and epoxide compounds. It mainly catalyzes the intramolecular dehalogenation and cyclization of halohydrin to generate epoxide and halide ion. In the presence of nucleophiles such as cyanide, azide, thiol, and nitrite, it can also catalyze the regioselective ring-opening of epoxide to produce a variety of chiral β-substituted alcohol intermediates. This enzyme is not a conventional hydrolase, but a typical project-based biocatalytic enzyme for chiral synthesis. Its core value lies in mild reaction conditions, high selectivity, and the ability to reduce the use of metal catalyst and complex resolution steps. It is commonly used in the green synthesis of chiral epoxide, chiral alcohol compound, and nitrogen- or sulfur-containing intermediate.
Its downstream applications are mainly concentrated in pharmaceutical manufacturing, agrochemical manufacturing, specialty chemical, and biocatalysis R&D. Among these, pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediate synthesis places higher requirements on stereoselectivity, substrate adaptability, and batch-to-batch consistency, while specialty chemical and R&D applications focus more on enzyme library screening, process route optimization, and small-scale process scale-up capability. Overall, Halohydrin Dehalogenase has a relatively small market size but high technical barriers. It is mainly positioned in the field of green manufacturing of high-value-added chiral intermediate and is a typical project-based biocatalytic enzyme product.
Global key Halohydrin Dehalogenases players cover Codexis, Almac Sciences, Prozomix, Enzymicals AG, SyncoZymes, etc.
