Scope of the Report

The global Wide Band Gap Semiconductors SiC Crystal Growth Furnace Graphite Component market size is predicted to grow from US$ 192 million in 2025 to US$ 368 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.2% from 2026 to 2032.

In 2025, the global market sales volume of Wide Band Gap Semiconductors SiC Crystal Growth Furnace Graphite Component reached 111,330 units, with an average price of approximately US$1,785 per unit.

First-generation semiconductor materials, represented by traditional silicon (Si) and germanium (Ge), form the basis of integrated circuit manufacturing and are widely used in low-voltage, low-frequency, and low-power transistors and detectors. More than 90% of semiconductor products are made using silicon-based materials. Second-generation semiconductor materials, represented by gallium arsenide (GaAs), indium phosphide (InP), and gallium phosphide (GaP), offer high-frequency and high-speed optoelectronic performance compared to silicon-based devices and are widely used in optoelectronics and microelectronics. Third-generation semiconductor materials are represented by emerging materials such as silicon carbide (SiC), gallium nitride (GaN), zinc oxide (ZnO), diamond (C), and aluminum nitride (AlN). Fourth-generation semiconductors, also known as ultra-bandgap semiconductors, fall into two categories: ultra-narrow bandgap semiconductors and ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors. Ultra-narrow bandgap semiconductors have a bandgap width (the minimum energy required for bound valence electrons to generate intrinsic excitation) of a few tenths of an electron volt (eV). Materials with bandgap narrower than ultra-narrow bandgap semiconductors are called conductors. Ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors include gallium oxide with a bandgap of 4.9 eV, and materials with even wider bandgap widths such as diamond and aluminum nitride. When the bandgap exceeds 6.2 eV, the material is essentially an insulator. The fourth-generation semiconductor materials do not represent generational replacement but rather complementarity and integration (heterogeneous integration).

Physical vapor transport (PVT) is the earliest developed method for growing SiC crystals and is currently the most mainstream method. Compared to other methods, this method has lower requirements for growth equipment, a simpler growth process, stronger controllability, and has been thoroughly researched and developed, achieving industrial application. Currently, industrial PVT growth systems using medium-frequency induction heating are generally used. These systems mainly consist of an induction coil, an insulation layer, a crucible, and the SiC raw material and seed crystal loaded in the crucible. Joule heating generated by the induced current in the crucible's sidewalls is the primary heat source. The crucible comprises an upper seed crystal holder and a lower material cavity. The upper seed crystal holder is used to bond the seed crystal, and the lower material cavity is used to hold the SiC raw material. Graphite is widely used in SiC crystal growth due to its high-temperature stability, good thermal conductivity, ease of processing, and low cost. The existing single-crystal furnace crucible kits have the following drawbacks: First, if molten silicon adheres to the upper edge of the graphite crucible, it may cause cracks, rendering the crucible unusable. Second, if molten silicon splashed from the quartz crucible flows into the hot zone, it may cause sparking. Furthermore, if molten silicon splashed from the quartz crucible flows along the gap between the graphite and quartz crucibles to the R-section of the graphite crucible, it may cause crystallization on the outer wall of the quartz crucible, or even lead to silicon leakage. Adding graphite rings during charging can protect against splashing during the Czochralski single-crystal furnace melting process, extending the life of the graphite crucible by one to two times and significantly reducing production costs. In the silicon carbide crystal growth process, the entire reaction takes place in a vacuum; using graphite rings not only enhances the sealing effect but also allows for temperature adjustment, improving crystal growth quality.

The production of silicon carbide (SiC) crystal-grown graphite components holds a crucial strategic position in the military, aerospace, and artificial intelligence fields: During SiC crystal growth, the high-temperature resistance and structural stability of the graphite crucible, seed crystal holder, and sealing ring directly affect crystal quality. The military sector has stringent requirements for device consistency and lifespan. Defects in the graphite components (such as cracks or seal failure) can lead to crystal defects or silicon leakage accidents, thereby affecting the yield and reliability of military equipment. Optimizing the graphite component design (such as adding a protective ring) can extend crucible life, reduce the risk of silicon leakage, and ensure the stable mass production of military-grade silicon carbide crystals.

In the PVT method for growing SiC crystals, the design of the graphite thermal field directly affects the crystal growth rate and defect density. For example, using high-purity graphite rings can optimize the temperature gradient distribution, reduce internal stress in the crystal, and thus obtain large-size, low-defect SiC single crystals. Devices made from these crystals can significantly reduce the power system losses of spacecraft, extend the on-orbit life of satellites, and reduce the weight burden of thermal management systems.

The large-scale demand for silicon carbide (SiC) devices from AI hardware is forcing upstream materials manufacturers to reduce costs. By optimizing graphite components (such as extending crucible life by 1-2 times), companies can significantly reduce SiC crystal manufacturing costs and accelerate its adoption in AI infrastructure. Furthermore, the control of vacuum levels during crystal growth by the graphite sealing ring directly affects crystal purity, and high-purity SiC is fundamental to ensuring the stability of power supply for AI chips.

With the outbreak of high-voltage, high-frequency, and high-temperature environment application scenarios such as new energy vehicles, photovoltaics, wind power, high-voltage power supplies, and 5G communications, the penetration rate of SiC devices has increased rapidly. The preparation process of its core material, silicon carbide single crystal, must rely on the high-temperature vapor phase sublimation method (PVT method). This process is highly dependent on graphite thermal field components (crucibles, insulation layers, heaters, etc.), which directly drives the growth of the supporting industry.

In order to adapt to the expansion of crystal growth size from 4 inches and 6 inches to 8 inches or even 12 inches, higher requirements are put forward for the processing accuracy, high temperature resistance, isostatic compactness, and thermal shock resistance of graphite components. In the future, graphite materials will continue to be optimized in the direction of high purity, high density, low porosity, and resistance to impurity pollution.

The rapid increase in the domestic production rate of SiC wafers, epitaxial wafers, devices, and modules has made the local industrial chain put forward stronger consistency and controllability requirements for supporting graphite components, forming a trend to promote the expansion of local supporting manufacturing capabilities of graphite thermal field materials.

SiC-MOSFET is more than 20% more efficient than Si IGBT, and has been widely introduced by Tesla, BYD, Weilai and other models. The explosion of crystal growth demand has driven the growth of thermal field graphite components. It is expected that 2024~2027 will be a high growth window period.

Crystal growth requires a larger and more stable thermal field system, and graphite components need to be highly matched with furnace type and heat flow simulation design, driving technical demand.
