Overview
Scope of the Report
The global Aerospace PMI Structural Foam market size is predicted to grow from US$ 183 million in 2025 to US$ 323 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.5% from 2026 to 2032.
In 2025, global Aerospace PMI Structural Foam production reached 261,830 cubic meters, with an average selling price of US$714.28/cubic meter. Hybo FOAM has established a PMI foam production line with an annual capacity of 5,000 cubic meters. PMI foam, short for polymethacrylimide foam, is an ideal core material for high-performance, lightweight sandwich composites. Currently, PMI foam offers the highest strength and stiffness in heat-resistant plastics. Its widespread application stems from its ability to withstand diverse process environments and its excellent compatibility with various resin types. Carbon fiber composites using PMI foam as a core material offer advantages such as light weight, high flexural strength, excellent heat resistance, and impact resistance. Aerospace remains a key downstream market for PMI foam, with approximately 80% of PMI foam used internationally in aerospace applications. PMI structural foam materials (functional materials) and their products are essential components for the carbon fiber composites used in various types of civil and military aircraft, drones, and other aircraft (fusels, wings, blades, etc.). Aerospace PMI Structural foam products have been widely used in aerospace and aviation, and we are the exclusive qualified domestic supplier to several domestic aircraft manufacturers. The rapid growth of the military industry in recent years has led to strong demand for lightweight composite materials for fighter jets, drones, and other applications, creating growth opportunities for domestic manufacturers. Currently, Evonik of Germany maintains a dominant position in the aerospace PMI foam market. Only a few Chinese manufacturers, such as Hunan Zihard Material Technology Co., Ltd., Cashem Advanced Materials Hi-tech Co., Ltd. and Hybo FOAM, have achieved domestic production. The rapid growth of the military industry in recent years has led to a strong demand for lightweight composite materials for fighter jets, drones, and other applications, creating growth opportunities for domestic manufacturers.
In the aerospace industry, composite components typically have a "sandwich" structure, consisting of a skin and core. Currently, the three main types of composite core materials are honeycomb, rigid foam, and balsa wood. Honeycomb materials primarily include aluminum honeycomb and paper honeycomb. Rigid foams include PMI, PVC, PET, PU, and EPS. Balsa wood is primarily used for balsa wood. Composite sandwich structures are the preferred choice for manufacturing lightweight, high-strength aircraft components. They are commonly used in wing leading edges, rudders, landing gear doors, wing bodies, and wingtip fairings. Among foams of the same density, PMI foam currently boasts the highest specific strength and specific stiffness among rigid closed-cell foams. The pore surfaces of PMI foam are composed of true solid components, which increase the rigidity of the porous structure. In composite sandwich structures, PMI foam can serve as a structural unit. Currently, PMI is widely used in European and American aviation, with 80% of US military aircraft and 83% of Boeing and other civilian aircraft using PMI. In contrast, PMI usage in the Chinese aviation industry is only around 7%. This is primarily due to the significant technological gap between China and other countries, as China still lacks the engineering technology for Z-reinforced PMI (patented by the US company Aztex for its Z-pin).

Systematic collection from 500+ verified sources including SEC filings, industry databases (Bloomberg, Statista, OECD), regulatory filings, trade publications, patent databases, and company annual reports. AI-assisted extraction identifies relevant data points across 10,000+ documents per report.
Dual-validation approach: bottom-up sizing aggregates segment-level production, consumption, and trade data; top-down sizing cross-validates against macroeconomic indicators and total addressable market estimates. Discrepancies >5% trigger analyst review.
Company profiles built from public financial disclosures, product launches, M&A activity, job postings (as capability proxies), and supply chain mapping. Market share estimates triangulated across revenue, capacity, and shipment data.
CAGR projections use time-series regression on 5-10 years of historical data, adjusted for identified demand drivers (technology adoption curves, regulatory catalysts, demographic shifts) and demand inhibitors (cost barriers, substitution risk). Scenario modeling covers base, optimistic, and conservative cases.
All quantitative outputs reviewed by a domain-specialist analyst before publication. Data triangulation requires minimum 3 independent sources for every key figure. Reports undergo a structured peer review against our 47-point quality checklist covering methodology, data citations, logical consistency, and formatting standards.
On-demand reports are generated at time of purchase, incorporating the most recent available data. Static reports are republished when underlying market conditions shift by >10% from baseline assumptions. Purchasers receive update notifications for 12 months.
