Overview
Scope of the Report
The global Low Ion Migration Coverlay market size is predicted to grow from US$ 283 million in 2025 to US$ 444 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.8% from 2026 to 2032.
In 2025, the global production volume of Low Ion Migration Coverlay reached 18,600 thousand square meters, with an average selling price of USD 14.80 per square meter, production capacity of 22,500 thousand square meters, and a gross margin of 31.5%.
Low Ion Migration Coverlay is a functional insulating and circuit-protection material used on flexible printed circuit boards (FPCs) and rigid-flex printed circuit boards. It is generally composed of a polyimide (PI) base film, a low-ionic adhesive layer, and a release liner. By controlling residual halide ions, metal ions, and other mobile ionic contaminants, the material helps suppress electrochemical migration, dendrite formation, insulation resistance degradation, and short-circuit risks under high-temperature, high-humidity, and electrical-bias conditions. It also provides heat resistance, flexibility, dimensional stability, flame retardancy, and reliable adhesion. Major applications include high-density fine-line FPCs used in smartphones, wearable devices, display and touch modules, camera modules, automotive electronics, and other high-reliability electronic products.
The upstream supply chain of Low Ion Migration Coverlay mainly includes polyimide films, epoxy- or acrylic-based adhesives, flame retardants, curing agents, low-ionic additives, release films, and precision coating equipment. The heat resistance and dimensional stability of the PI film, together with the ionic impurity level of the adhesive system, directly affect ion migration resistance and long-term insulation reliability. Midstream manufacturers are responsible for adhesive formulation, precision coating, lamination, curing, slitting, and quality inspection. Downstream customers primarily include FPC, rigid-flex PCB, and electronic module manufacturers, with final applications in consumer electronics, automotive electronics, display and touch modules, camera modules, communication equipment, medical electronics, and other high-reliability electronic products.
