Overview
Scope of the Report
The global Motor Control Centers market size is predicted to grow from US$ 10,660 million in 2025 to US$ 13,630 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.6% from 2026 to 2032.
A motor control center (MCC) is an assembly to control some or all electric motors in a central location. It consists of multiple enclosed sections having a common power bus and with each section containing a combination starter, which in turn consists of motor starter, fuses or circuit breaker, and power disconnect. A motor control center can also include push buttons, indicator lights, variable-frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, and metering equipment. It may be combined with the electrical service entrance for the building. MCC's are typically found in large commercial or industrial buildings where there are many electric motors that need to be controlled from a central location, such as a mechanical room or electrical room.
In 2024, global Motor Control Center sales volume reached approximately 65.2 k units, with an average global market price of around 150.5 k US$ per unit.
1. Industrial Automation & Mechanization
One of the most cited drivers is the increasing adoption of automation across manufacturing, process industries (oil & gas, chemical, mining, metals & mining), utilities and other sectors. As more motor-driven equipment (pumps, fans, conveyors, compressors, mixers, extruders) are deployed, the need for centralized, reliable motor control grows. Mechanization (replacing manual labour with machines) and then automation (machines controlled via PLCs/robots) both contribute.
If a plant has many motors, scattered starters/controls become unwieldy: MCCs provide a structured system for motor-control, monitoring and maintenance. Additionally, automated plants often require faster response, integrated diagnostics, remote monitoring and better safety/protection — pushing the need for more advanced MCCs (so-called intelligent or smart MCCs).
2. Increasing Focus on Energy Efficiency, Safety and Sustainability
Energy-efficiency and sustainability pressures are fuelling MCC adoption. Motors consume a large share of industrial electricity; optimizing motor control, using variable speed drives (VSDs)/soft-starters, reducing downtime, avoiding overloads and monitoring energy usage are all enabled via modern MCCs. Reports highlight the driver of “growing focus on energy-efficient and automated systems” as boosting the MCC market.
Safety is another major driver: MCCs consolidate control of motors in a safe, serviceable cabinet, improving accessibility, maintenance and fault-isolation compared to many discrete starters. Compliance with safety standards (arc-flash mitigation, compartmentation, lock-out/tag-out, remote diagnostics) is pushing demand for more advanced MCC designs.
3. Infrastructure Development, Urbanisation & Utilities Growth
Beyond manufacturing, much of the growth is tied to large infrastructure projects: water and wastewater treatment plants, building HVAC systems, power generation & distribution, transport infrastructure (metros, rail, airports), utilities upgrades and renewables integration. As these sectors deploy many motors and drives, MCCs become essential. For example: one report mentions that “growing demand for infrastructure development in emerging economies” is an important driver.
Urbanisation in Asia-Pacific and other emerging regions means more new factories, new buildings, more motors, more controls — leading to rising MCC demand. Additionally, expansions of power generation capacity (both conventional and renewables) require motor control systems for ancillary equipment, boosting MCCs.
4. Shift Towards Smart & Modular MCCs / Digitalisation
A significant driver is the transition from conventional MCCs to intelligent or smart MCCs — those equipped with integrated sensors, communications (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, PROFINET), analytics, remote monitoring, diagnostics and predictive maintenance capability. One report states that “the growing adoption of intelligent motor control centers that offer diagnostic capabilities, loss detection and predictive maintenance features” is fuelling the market.
Modular designs (plug-in units, withdrawable starters, compact busbars, smaller footprint) and standardised components facilitate quicker installation, easier maintenance and scalability — which end-users favour. Reports note a shift toward modular and scalable MCC architectures as a trend.
