Butadiene rubber(BR) is the abbreviation for cis-1,4-polybutadiene synthetic rubber. It is a universal synthetic rubber synthesized using butadiene as a monomer, different catalysts, and polymerization methods. It has the advantages of good elasticity, strong wear resistance, good low-temperature resistance, good crack resistance, and dynamic performance. It is widely used in the production of rubber products such as tires, high impact polystyrene and ABS resin modification, adhesive tapes, rubber hoses, and rubber shoes. Nickel butadiene rubber uses nickel based catalysts, while neodymium butadiene rubber (NdBR), also known as rare earth butadiene rubber, uses rare earth metal neodymium as a catalyst.

China began the research and production of nickel based butadiene rubber in the 1960s. After years of development, China has become a major producer of butadiene rubber worldwide. However, domestically produced butadiene rubber is mainly nickel based butadiene rubber, and the market faces problems such as overcapacity, single product grades, and intense homogenization competition. In the context of increasingly strict requirements for environmental protection, economy, cost, safety, etc., traditional butadiene rubber can no longer meet market demand, and the rare earth butadiene rubber market has ushered in a good development opportunity.

Rare earth butadiene rubber is the upgrade direction of butadiene rubber. Compared with traditional butadiene rubber, rare earth butadiene rubber has the advantages of green environmental protection, wear resistance, good viscosity, high strength, and moisture resistance. It is the preferred raw material rubber for producing high-performance tires, green tires, and radial tires. At present, Chinese enterprises engaged in research and production of rare earth butadiene rubber include CNPC, Sinopec, Zhejiang Transfar, etc. After years of development and accumulation, the production capacity of rare earth butadiene rubber in China has steadily increased. However, due to limitations in raw materials and production technology, the current production of rare earth butadiene rubber in China is relatively low, and market demand still relies on imports.
