Overview

Scope of the Report

The global Solid LiFSI market size is predicted to grow from US$ 197 million in 2025 to US$ 650 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 18.7% from 2026 to 2032.

Solid LiFSI refers to lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide as the chemical main component, with the molecular formula LiN(SO₂F)₂ (CAS No. 171611-11-3). It is an electrolyte lithium salt that, after synthesis, purification, crystallization, drying, and anhydrous packaging, is delivered in the form of white crystals, crystalline powder, or granules. Commercial battery-grade products typically have a purity of no less than 99.9%, with strict control over moisture, free acid, chloride ions, fluoride ions, sulfate ions, residual solvents, and metallic impurities. Solid LiFSI is a delivery form; depending on product purity and impurity control levels, solid LiFSI can be used as a low-proportion functional additive, an auxiliary salt or mixed main salt in combination with LiPF₆, or a high-concentration or standalone main salt. Compared to liquid concentrates, solid LiFSI offers advantages such as higher active ingredient content, wider storage and transportation radius, more flexible solvent system selection, and suitability for cross-regional supply. However, the crystallization dehydration, anhydrous packaging, and customer-side dissolution processes increase manufacturing and usage costs. Global solid LiFSI shipments are projected to reach approximately 13,000 tons in 2025, with an FOB price of approximately US$15,500 per ton and a gross profit margin of approximately 15% to 30%.

Solid LiFSI is evolving from a low-volume, high-priced specialty salt into an important electrolyte material for power batteries, energy-storage batteries, and next-generation battery systems. Fast-charging lithium iron phosphate cells, medium- and high-nickel high-voltage batteries, large cylindrical cells, silicon-based anodes, and lithium-metal batteries require improved ionic conductivity, interfacial stability, low-temperature performance, and thermal stability. These requirements are supporting a gradual increase in the proportion of LiFSI used in electrolyte formulations. Unlike solvent concentrates, Solid LiFSI allows electrolyte producers to select and adjust solvents independently, making it particularly suitable for overseas electrolyte plants, cross-regional supply, and premium formulations requiring greater solvent flexibility.

Market expansion remains constrained by cost, quality consistency, and competition from liquid concentrates. Solid LiFSI requires additional crystallization, dehydration, powder handling, and moisture-controlled packaging. In China’s highly concentrated electrolyte supply chain, liquid concentrates can reduce customer-side dissolution costs as well as dust and moisture-absorption risks, providing a cost advantage in high-volume domestic supply. Solid producers that lack export channels, premium purity grades, or main-salt qualification may face intense pricing pressure and low capacity utilization. Insufficient control of moisture, free acid, and halide impurities may also cause electrolyte gas generation, cycle-life deterioration, or aluminum current-collector corrosion, resulting in a longer customer-validation period than that required for conventional additives.

Future growth will primarily come from overseas electrolyte localization, premium power batteries, long-cycle energy storage, and semi-solid, polymer, and lithium-metal batteries. Chinese suppliers are expected to expand exports through scale and cost advantages, while Japanese and European suppliers retain strengths in high-purity products, intellectual property, and customer qualification. Competition will increasingly focus on effective shipments rather than announced capacity, together with high-purity yield, low-moisture consistency, regulatory compliance, and long-term supply reliability. Solid and liquid LiFSI are unlikely to replace each other completely. Instead, the market will develop a dual structure comprising high-volume domestic liquid supply and cross-regional or high-purity solid supply.
