Overview
Scope of the Report
The global Wall-Mounted Total Heat Exchanger market size is predicted to grow from US$ 224 million in 2025 to US$ 292 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.5% from 2026 to 2032.
Total Heat Exchanger refers to equipment (including ERV/HRV) that can recover and exchange heat between indoor and outdoor air.
Wall-mounted total heat exchangers are usually equipped with special mounting brackets or hangers that can be fixed directly to the load-bearing wall. There are two independent air channels inside the wall-mounted total heat exchanger, which are used to introduce outdoor fresh air and exhaust indoor exhaust air respectively. Fresh air and exhaust air flow in their respective channels and exchange heat and moisture through the full heat exchange core. The airflow on both sides of the core is isolated and will not mix directly, but heat and humidity can be transferred through the special material of the core.
Wall-mounted total heat exchangers are suitable for use in decorated scenes, such as residences, offices, hotels, schools, etc. It can be easily installed in a bedroom or children's room. You only need to open a ventilation hole in the outer wall and the machine can be hung directly on the wall. The main disadvantages are: small air volume, for residential buildings, the budget for a whole house is higher than that of a ceiling-mounted full heat exchanger, and there is noise.
In 2025, global Wall-Mounted Total Heat Exchanger sales reached 162,880 Units, with an average global market price of around 1,337 USD/Unit. Production capacity reached 250,000 Units, with a gross profit margin of approximately 30%.
Wall-mounted total heat exchangers are a type of fresh air ventilation equipment designed for single rooms or small areas. Through sensible and latent heat recovery, they pre-treat outdoor fresh air while expelling stale indoor air, thereby reducing heating and cooling loads. Compared to central ducted total heat exchange systems, they require less installation space and require less retrofitting, making them more suitable for residences, apartments, schools, hotels, offices, and partial renovations of existing buildings. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) points out that mechanical ventilation can improve indoor air quality, while heat recovery or energy recovery equipment can reduce the increased heating and cooling loads from introducing outdoor air; the new European building energy efficiency regulations further prioritize indoor environmental quality alongside building energy conservation.
Technological upgrades will focus on DC brushless motors, low-noise air ducts, high-efficiency total heat exchange cores, and intelligent control. Products are gradually integrating CO₂, PM2.5, temperature, humidity, and VOC sensors to automatically adjust airflow based on actual air quality and enable remote management via Wi-Fi, KNX, or building control systems. The U.S. Department of Energy has been conducting smart ERV verification based on low-cost indoor air quality sensors; wall-mounted products that support CO₂ or humidity control, wireless networking, and on-demand ventilation have also appeared on the market.
