Overview

The global semiconductor industry achieved a landmark milestone in 2025, recording confirmed full-year sales of $791.7 billion, a 25.6% year-over-year increase and a new all-time industry revenue record, according to confirmed data from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) and World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS). This performance represented the industry's second consecutive year of double-digit growth following a pronounced cyclical contraction of 8.2% in 2023, when global sales fell to $526.8 billion amid post-pandemic inventory corrections and weakening consumer electronics demand. The market is projected to reach $3,011.1 billion by 2031, representing a 2025-2031 compound annual growth rate of 24.9%.

Nvidia became the first semiconductor company in history to surpass $100 billion in annual semiconductor revenue in 2025, according to Gartner rankings, with its revenue lead over second-place Samsung Electronics widening to $53 billion and contributing more than 35% of the entire industry's incremental revenue growth for the year. SK Hynix advanced to the industry's third-largest vendor by revenue in 2025, posting 37% year-over-year growth driven almost entirely by its position as the leading global supplier of High-Bandwidth memory (HBM) to AI server manufacturers. TSMC deepened its dominance of the advanced foundry market, with its share of global foundry revenue rising from 62.8% in Q1 2024 to 72.2% in Q4 2025, according to TrendForce data.

Frequently asked questions

What is the current size of the global semiconductor market?
The global semiconductor market reached $791.7 billion in 2025, a confirmed actual figure from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) and World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), up 25.6% year-over-year and a new all-time industry revenue record.
What is the semiconductor market forecast to reach by 2031?
The market is projected to reach $3,011.1 billion by 2031 under this report's base case, representing a 2025-2031 compound annual growth rate of 24.9%. This headline CAGR is heavily shaped by the extraordinary 2026 AI-driven supercycle and should not be read as a representative steady-state growth rate.
What is driving the semiconductor market's growth?
The primary growth driver is capital expenditure on AI computing infrastructure by hyperscale cloud providers and enterprise data centers, which is fueling extraordinary demand for AI accelerator Logic chips and High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM). WSTS's official Spring 2026 Forecast projects 89.9% market growth in 2026 alone.
Which semiconductor product category is the largest?
Logic is the largest category at $301.9 billion (38.1% share) in 2025, followed by Memory at $223.1 billion (28.2% share). Together, Logic and Memory account for 66.3% of total 2025 market value.
Which semiconductor product category is growing fastest?
Memory is the fastest-growing category, with WSTS projecting revenue to surge approximately 250% year-over-year in 2026 alone, driven by High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) demand for AI servers -- a dynamic in which demand substantially exceeds available production capacity across all three major suppliers (SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, Micron Technology).
Which region leads the global semiconductor market?
Asia-Pacific remains the largest region in absolute terms, holding 56.0% share in 2025, anchored by Taiwan's foundry dominance (TSMC), South Korea's memory manufacturing base (Samsung, SK Hynix), and China's position as the largest single national market.
Which region is growing fastest?
North America's share is projected to rise sharply, from 33.0% in 2025 to 41.1% by 2031, directly reflecting CHIPS Act-funded domestic fab capacity coming online -- including TSMC's second and third Arizona fabs, Intel's Ohio expansion, and Texas Instruments' Sherman, TX facility.
Who are the key companies covered in this report?
This report profiles 25 leading companies across the semiconductor value chain, including Nvidia, TSMC, Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Intel, Broadcom, Micron, Qualcomm, ASML, and Texas Instruments among the top 10 by revenue, alongside equipment makers (Applied Materials, Lam Research, KLA), additional foundries (GlobalFoundries, UMC, SMIC), and analog/automotive-focused IDMs (STMicroelectronics, Infineon, NXP, ON Semiconductor, Analog Devices).
What caused the semiconductor market's 2023 downturn?
Global semiconductor sales contracted 8.2% in 2023, falling to $526.8 billion, amid post-pandemic inventory corrections across the electronics supply chain and weakening consumer electronics demand -- a cyclical downturn the industry has since fully recovered from and surpassed.
What forecast period does this report cover?
This report covers historical data from 2022-2025 and forecasts the market through 2031, with 2025 as the confirmed actual base year.
How reliable is the 2028-2031 forecast period?
2025-2027 figures are confirmed actuals or official WSTS forecasts. No official multi-year forecast exists beyond 2027 as of this report's preparation; the 2028-2031 figures are Navadhi's own projection modeling a deceleration from the extraordinary AI/HBM supercycle growth rate toward the industry's long-run historical CAGR of approximately 7-9%, detailed in the report's Methodology and Data Provenance sections.
What is High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and why does it matter for this market?
HBM is a specialized memory architecture stacked alongside AI accelerator chips to provide the data transfer bandwidth AI workloads require. Current HBM demand substantially exceeds production capacity, creating a supply-constrained market with elevated vendor pricing power -- a dynamic directly reflected in SK Hynix's 37% 2025 revenue growth, attributable almost entirely to HBM volume and price realization.

Research Methodology

All MarketResearchReports.com strategic research reports follow a rigorous, multi-stage methodology combining AI-assisted data synthesis with expert analyst validation.

01
Secondary Research & Data Aggregation

Systematic collection from 500+ verified sources including SEC filings, industry databases (Bloomberg, Statista, OECD), regulatory filings, trade publications, patent databases, and company annual reports. AI-assisted extraction identifies relevant data points across 10,000+ documents per report.

02
Market Sizing — Bottom-Up & Top-Down

Dual-validation approach: bottom-up sizing aggregates segment-level production, consumption, and trade data; top-down sizing cross-validates against macroeconomic indicators and total addressable market estimates. Discrepancies >5% trigger analyst review.

03
Competitive Intelligence

Company profiles built from public financial disclosures, product launches, M&A activity, job postings (as capability proxies), and supply chain mapping. Market share estimates triangulated across revenue, capacity, and shipment data.

04
Demand Forecasting

CAGR projections use time-series regression on 5-10 years of historical data, adjusted for identified demand drivers (technology adoption curves, regulatory catalysts, demographic shifts) and demand inhibitors (cost barriers, substitution risk). Scenario modeling covers base, optimistic, and conservative cases.

05
Analyst Validation & Quality Assurance

All quantitative outputs reviewed by a domain-specialist analyst before publication. Data triangulation requires minimum 3 independent sources for every key figure. Reports undergo a structured peer review against our 47-point quality checklist covering methodology, data citations, logical consistency, and formatting standards.
